Can you Use Roller Skate Wheels for Skateboards?

The most common type of skateboard wheel is made from polyurethane, which offers a good balance of grip and speed. However, you may be wondering if you can use roller skate wheels on your skateboard. The short answer is yes – roller skate wheels can be used on skateboards.

Many professional skateboarders prefer to use roller skate wheels because they tend to be faster and smoother than traditional skateboard wheels. However, there are a few things to keep in mind if you’re thinking about using roller skate wheels on your skateboard.

First, the size of the wheel needs to match the size of the deck (i.e., the width of the board). Second, roller skate wheels are typically made for indoor use, so they may not be as durable as traditional skateboard wheels

And finally, roller skate wheels don’t have the same “grip” as traditional skateboard wheels, so you may find yourself slipping more often. Overall, using roller skate wheels on your skateboard is a matter of personal preference.

Can you put roller skate wheels on a skateboard?

Yes, you can put roller skate wheels on a skateboard. Many people do! While it might not be the most traditional setup, it can work. The main thing to keep in mind is that the size and hardness of the wheels will affect your ride.

So if you’re looking to go fast and do some serious tricks, you might want to stick with traditional skateboard wheels. But if you’re just looking to cruise around and have some fun, roller skate wheels can do the trick!

Differences Between Skateboard Wheels and Roller Skate Wheels

Skateboards and roller skates both have four wheels, but that’s about where the similarities end. Skateboard wheels are generally made of polyurethane, which is harder than the PVC used for most roller skate wheels. This difference in hardness contributes to the distinct riding feel of each type of wheeled device.

Skateboarders often prefer the harder wheels because they roll faster and easier over rough surfaces. Softer roller skate wheels provide more traction and are better able to absorb vibrations from skating on uneven surfaces, making them a good choice for beginners or those skating primarily indoors.

The length of the axle also varies between skateboards and roller skates. Skateboard axles are typically longer, which allows the wheels to turning independently of each other and makes flips and other tricks possible.

On most roller skates, the wheels are attached to a common axle, resulting in a less maneuverable ride. Finally, another major difference between skateboards and roller skates is that most skateboards lack toe brakes, while most types of roller skates have them.

Toe brakes provide an easy way to slow down or stop while skating, making them a key safety feature for beginner skaters.

How to find the right size of wheels to put on a skateboard?

Used roller skate wheels can easily be found on eBay. You can also find them at a thrift store. To get the right size, simply measure your skateboard and find something in the same size range. With a little effort, you can have the perfect set of wheels for your skateboard.

Putting skates on a skateboard would make it unstable

Roller skate wheels are not meant to be used on regular skateboards because they can make the board unstable.

Most skates are made with bearings that support the weight from multiple directions, but roller skate wheels only support the weight from one direction. This can make the board wobble and makes it more difficult to control.

Additionally, tricks are more likely to cause the wheels to come off, which could lead to injury. If you’re only interested in going down hills, then roller skate wheels may work well enough for you. However, I wouldn’t recommend trying any tricks with them.

Can you put any longboard wheels on a skateboard?

If you want to attach longboard wheels to a skateboard, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First, the wheels can’t be bigger than 70mm. You also need to attach 1/2“ riser pads and 1 1/2″ bolt to keep enough clearance or else you’ll get wheel bite.

In addition, your trucks should be tight and harder bushings are recommended depending on your weight. By following these guidelines, you’ll be able to put together a longboard that will ride smoothly and safely.

Is there a difference between roller skate wheels and skateboard wheels?

Most quad skate wheels have a diameter of 50-60 mm. Skateboard wheels are usually 40-50 mm. The widths of both types of wheels vary, but quad wheels are generally wider in the center than skateboard wheels, which gives them more stability.

Quad wheels also have a smaller contact patch with the ground, which makes them roll faster. Skateboard wheels are more likely to grip the ground, making them better for tricks. The hardness of the wheels also varies.

Softer wheels are better for rough surfaces, while harder wheels are better for smooth surfaces. In general, quad skate wheels are made of harder materials than skateboard wheels.
