Should I Put Shock Pads On A skateboard?

If you’re a skateboarder, you’ve probably wondered whether or not you should put shock pads on your board. Shock pads are designed to absorb impact and reduce vibration, which can help protect your board from damage and improve your riding experience. But do they really make a difference? We took a closer look at the science behind shock pads to find out.

Shock pads are made of a variety of materials, including foam, gel, and rubber. They’re typically placed between the deck and trucks of a skateboard and can vary in thickness from 1/16 to 1/2 inch. Shock pads can help reduce vibration and impact when you land tricks or skate over rough terrain. They can also extend the life of your deck by absorbing some of the stress that would otherwise be transferred to the wood.

So, do shock pads really make a difference? The answer is yes – but it depends on how you use them. If you’re a casual skateboarder who only rides on smooth surfaces, you probably won’t notice much of a difference with shock pads. But if you’re a more aggressive rider who skateboards on rough terrain or does a lot of tricks, shock pads can help improve your riding experience and protect your deck from damage.

Do most skaters use shock pads?

Most skaters do use shock pads, as they help to reduce impact and protect the knees and ankles from injury. However, not all skaters use them, and some prefer not to for different reasons. Some skaters find that shock pads make it harder to feel the ground, which can be beneficial for doing certain tricks. Ultimately, it is up to the individual skater to decide whether or not to use shock pads.

Where do you put shock pads on a skateboard?

Shock pads are usually placed in the area of the skateboard that makes contact with the ground when the board is being used. This varies depending on how a person uses their skateboard, but the shock pads are usually placed in the middle or towards the back of the board.

Conclusion:

If you decide to put shock pads on your skateboard, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, make sure you choose the right material for your riding style. Foam pads are softer and more absorbent, so they’re good for beginner and casual riders. Gel pads are medium-density and provide a balance of cushioning and support, making them a good choice for intermediate riders. Rubber pads are the hardest and most durable, so they’re best for advanced riders who skate on rough terrain or do a lot of tricks.

Second, consider the thickness of the shock pad. Thicker pads will provide more cushioning and absorb more impact, but they can also make your board less responsive and less stable. If you’re a beginner, it’s a good idea to start with a thinner pad and gradually increase the thickness as you become more comfortable with your skating.

Finally, make sure you install the shock pads correctly. They should be placed between the deck and trucks, with the thicker side facing up. If they’re not installed correctly, they might not work as well or could even damage your skateboard.

Shock pads can make a difference in your skating, but it’s important to choose the right type and thickness for your riding style. With a little bit of experimentation, you’ll be able to find the perfect shock pads for your skateboard.
