What Skills Do You Need to Skateboard

Tick-tacking

Tick-tacking is a skateboarding move that allows you to change directions quickly. To do a tick-tack, start by rolling forward and then pushing off with your back foot to turn around. As you’re turning, transfer your weight to your front foot.

Pushing

Pushing is how you move forward on your skateboard. To push, start by placing your back foot on the tail of your board and then pushing off with your front foot. As you’re pushing, transfer your weight from your back foot to your front foot.

Stopping

There are two main ways to stop on a skateboard – heel braking and toe braking.

To heel brake, place your back foot on the tail of your board and then drag your foot backward to slow down.

To toe brake, place your front foot on the nose of your board and then drag your foot backward to stop.

How to Stop on a Skateboard

Ways to Stop When Skateboarding

The most common and easiest way to stop when skateboarding is to simply drag your foot on the ground. This can be done with either foot, but it is usually done with the back foot.

Heel Breaking:

To heel break, place your back foot on the tail of the board and then drag your foot backward to slow down.

To toe break, place your front foot on the nose of your board and then drag your foot backward to stop.

Bail:  

Bailing is when you jump off of your skateboard to avoid crashing. This should only be done if you are about to fall and cannot recover.
