8 Best Skateparks in North Dakota

North Dakota is a largely rural state, with almost forty percent of the population living in rural areas. While this offers a unique charm, it also means that there are few skateparks in the state. 

The Peace Garden state only has a handful of major cities, and many of them do not have skateparks. This can be frustrating for young skateboarders who have to travel long distances to find a place to practice their craft. However, there are some bright spots.

In recent years, cities like Bismarck and Fargo have begun to invest in skateparks, and more are sure to follow suit. With time and perseverance, North Dakota’s skateboarding community will eventually have the parks they need to thrive.

Rydell Skatepark 

Rydell Skatepark is a great place for skaters of all levels to gather and enjoy the sport. The park features a tri-tiered manual pad, grind ledge, 10′ x 2′ x 1’10″H, and is located in beautiful Kannowski Park. The park also has a designated area for families to picnic and enjoy the scenery. This is a great spot for anyone looking to enjoy the sport of skateboarding.

It is an unsupervised facility, so skate at your own risk. Safety equipment is always recommended when skating, regardless of skill level. The skatepark is open to skateboards, longboards, inline skates, roller skates,and scooters. Note that riding a bicycle or any other wheeled device in the skatepark is prohibited unless it is specifically designed for skating (i.e. a BMX bike).

Skatepark Fargo

The Fargo Skate Park is a much-needed public space for skateboarders, rollerbladers and bikers of all skill levels. The 23,000 square foot concrete park contains challenges for beginners, intermediates and advanced users, and is open from dawn to dusk. 

It is free to the public, although proper protective gear is highly recommended. The Skate Park provides a much-needed outlet for young people in the community and is a great asset to the city of Fargo.While, kids can also easily navigate their way around it with ease or if they’re feeling more adventurous there are plenty opportunities for them in this skatepark as well.

Location: 430 4th Ave S, Fargo, ND 58103.

Hours: 9am-9pm.

Lions Skatepark

Lions Skatepark includes ledges, up gaps, handrails, banks, hips and stairs, as well as a kidney shaped bowl that is 5′-7′ deep. The skatepark is open to the public during daylight hours and offers a challenging and fun skateboarding experience for all levels of skaters. 

Location: 1601 E Boulevard Ave, Bismarck, ND 58501.

Hours: 6am-11pm.

Eagles Skate Park

Offering nearly 27,000 square feet of ramps, rails, street obstacles, and a bowl. The park is adjacent to the William “Bill” Austen Youth Center and features a variety of extreme challenges for skateboard, scooter, and bike enthusiasts of all ages.It is open daily from sunrise to sunset and offers annual passes for residents and non-residents. So come on out and enjoy the extreme fun at Eagle Skate Park.

Location: 4 Street SW & 2 Avenue SW Dickinson, ND 58601.

Hours: Open sunrise to sunset.

White Shield Skatepark

White Shield skatepark is a small 5000 square meter concrete park built by SpohnRanch skateparks in 2021. The skatepark is located at the White Shield Sports complex. It comes with a halfpipe and lights. The halfpipe is 3 meters high with a 6 meter transition. The lights are bright enough to skate at night.

Hours: Open sunrise to sunset.

Twin Town Skatepark 

Open since 2014, the Twin Town skatepark is a concrete park that caters to all levels of skaters. The skatepark features an open bowl, plaza style street area, and a variety of obstacles to keep things interesting. Some of the notable features include the Hubba (a street skating obstacle), the Roll-in (a smooth ramp into the bowl), and the Funbox (a box with grindable edges). The skatepark is well-maintained and provides a great space for skaters to practice their skills.

Location: 630 6th St N, Breckenridge, MN 56520.

Hours: 8am-8pm.

Mandan Community Center Skatepark

The Mandan Skatepark is a great place to enjoy some outdoor skating.It is made of concrete, making it durable and weather-resistant. There are a variety of obstacles to suit all skill levels, including banks/wedges, bowls/pools, flat rails, handrails, hubbas, grind boxes/ledges, pyramids, quarter pipes, and stairsets. The skatepark is well-maintained and offers a safe and fun environment for all.

Location: 901 Division Street, 58554, North Dakota.

Hours: Open sunrise to sunset.

McElroy Park Skatepark 

McElroy Park Skatepark is a idedestination for skateboarders, rollerbladers, BMX riders, and scooter enthusiasts. It comes a wide variety of obstacles, including grind boxes and ledges, pyramids, and spines. The park is also home to a state-of-the-art skate shop, where visitors can purchase the latest gear and apparel.

Location: 1000-1098 4th Ave SE, Jamestown, ND 58401.

Hours: Open 24 hours.
